TOTA Annual General Meeting & Tourism Summit
November 13 + 14, 2018 — Spirit Ridge At Nk’Mip Resort By Hyatt | Osoyoos, BC
Drive for Sustainability
In the heart of Canada’s desert nestled in the South Okanagan, Osoyoos will be the host of this years Annual General Meeting.
The cost for this year’s event will be $199 per person plus GST.
Located on traditional Syilx territory and sacred to the Osoyoos Indian Band, Spirit Ridge at Nk’Mip Resort is devoted to promoting inclusion, reconciliation, and community building. A world-class facility that features a desert winery, sensitive landscape, and a coveted cultural centre, the setting embraces our vision for a sustainable future for all.
By recently joining The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, Spirit Ridge is now recognized globally as a unique and story-worthy staying experience, and is the first Canadian property, and only the sixth worldwide, to join the Unbound Collection. Rich in culture and historical relevance, this resort truly reflects this years theme, Drive for Sustainability, with their work in the preservation and education of the unique landscape through the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre.
In keeping with our theme of Drive for Sustainability, the Summit will focus on hearing from our partners such as Destination BC, Tourism Industry Association Canada, Tourism Industry Association British Columbia, Indigenous Tourism British Columbia, Destination Canada, and other industry stakeholders and representatives from the scientific restoration community, government, and Indigenous communities in the region.

Although we are still finalizing our line-up of speakers, we are thrilled to welcome Randy Durband as our Key Note speaker:
Randy Durband is the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the UN-supported NGO that establishes and manages global baseline standards for sustainability in travel and tourism. The GSTC Criteria include guidelines for minimizing negative environmental, cultural, and social impacts while maximizing travel and tourism as a force for good. Mr. Durband is a frequent speaker on sustainable tourism and has served on many tourism boards and sustainable tourism awards judging panels.
We are also pleased to welcome back Jon Mamela of Destination Canada as a speaker:
Jon Mamela joined Destination Canada in 2013 and he has been guiding the organization’s marketing transformation to become a global tourism leader through their integrated content marketing strategies and digital eco-systems to ring their partner’s cash registers.
He daily leads a dynamic and passionate team who are responsible for building Canada’s tourism brand driving international tourism visitation to the country.
This is the one event a year that gives us the opportunity to reconnect with our industry colleagues and work together as a region. We will have times of celebration, as our region has been recognized as the first in the Americas to achieve Sustainable Tourism Biosphere Designation, Certification based on the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals in agenda 2030, and meet the guidelines from the World Charter on Sustainable Tourism +20. Additionally, we’ve received the World Travel and Tourism Council 2018 Tourism for Tomorrow Award. And while these are all incredible recognitions, we are not done, and look forward to beneficial discussions on how we can continue our Drive for Sustainability.
