“As a small business owner we like it when someone tells us they are going to do something for us for free! Given our location and the current pandemic, all the work in the virtual energy assessment was able to be done remotely and the data collection was not a huge investment of our time. Once the data had been provided TOTA was very quick in providing their assessment and list of recommendations for changes that we could make to save on our power consumption.
Lots of opportunities for energy savings were presented and worthy of further investigation, however, one struck us as simple and quick to implement – moving to LED lightbulbs. Given our drawer full of incandescent bulbs we had been reluctant to make the change but after looking at the cost savings presented in the TOTA assessment it didn’t make any sense to wait any longer. In just a few days we were able to change out all of our bulbs and reduce our potential energy consumption by over 3000 watts. Based on the investment we made we feel it is a maximum 18 month payback and the best part is we likely won’t have to change another lightbulb as long as we are running this business.
We did struggle with throwing away all the perfectly good (though energy inefficient) incandescent light bulbs so decided to donate them to the local thrift store in hopes that someone that otherwise might not be able to afford the more expensive LED bulbs could at least take advantage of some free incandescent ones.
If you haven’t started thinking about making your business energy efficient we would strongly recommend this service. It can be that catalyst to doing the right thing for your business and for the environment."
