Why Biospherology?

“Biospherology” refers to the branch of knowledge around developing and implementing sustainable tourism practices as part of a global ecosystem made up of interconnected relationships. The term is inspired by Biosphere Tourism, a sustainable tourism system created by the Responsible Tourism Institute. The system is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Thompson Okanagan is a Biosphere Gold Certified Destination and manages the Thompson Okanagan Biosphere Commitment Program, which empowers tourism industry stakeholders to work towards the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals to benefit their business and communities.
