Program Schedule:
Schedule 1:
Training Program: October 16, 2023 - May 10, 2024 (30 weeks)
Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 12 PM
Work Experience & Mentorship: May 13 - July 19, 2024 (10 weeks)
Schedule 2:
Training Program: October 17, 2023 - June 8, 2024 (34 weeks)
Tuesday/Thursday evenings, 6 PM - 9 PM and Saturdays, 9 AM – 4 PM
Work Experience & Mentorship: May 13 – July 19, 2024 (10 weeks)
Both schedules include a two week break for December holidays: December 18 - January 2

Program Overview
The Hospitality Professional Program (HPP) provides a comprehensive package of training to prepare participants for a variety of positions, including supervisory positions within the hospitality sector, particularly in the Thompson Okanagan region.
The program is meant for individuals who are:
Entering the hospitality sector, bringing skills from past experience in other sectors or industries.
Current hospitality professionals looking to build on a hospitality management career by further developing skills, knowledge, and connections.
This fully funded, part-time online program will provide participants with instruction, certificates, mentorship, employment coaching, work experience, and job placement support. The program combines practical skills with specialized knowledge and connects students to industry employers in the Thompson Okanagan hospitality sector.
Participants will come together in a virtual classroom, facilitated by a diverse roster of experienced hospitality instructors and guests speakers coordinated by Okanagan College. The blend of live online learning sessions and self-led online industry certificates will rapidly cover many topics of the changing landscape of the Thompson Okanagan hospitality industry.
Program Content
Developed in response to the major changes in the hospitality sector as of 2023, this free online program provides skills and experience for professionals navigating the industry post-COVID, and to obtain meaningful and sustainable employment. As well, the program will connect professionals to Thompson Okanagan hospitality businesses to increase the region's skilled labour force.
This unique and intensive hospitality skills training will prepare (and certify) participants for work in the hospitality sector immediately, focusing on introductions to marketing, social media, accounting, and project management, HR, and management. Participants will be prepared to meet the employers’ needs where they are today, and adapt as the environment changes.
Participants will complete the following:
Basic Accounting 1, with option to complete Basic Accounting Certificate
Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) Certification
FoodSafe Certificate

Applicant Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Living in Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia (which includes Shuswap, Boundary Country, Similkameen, and Gold Country/Nicola Valley) or in Revelstoke area.
Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person legally able to work in Canada.
(Post-Graduation Work Permit, Temporary Foreign Worker Program, and other temporary work visa holders are not eligible)
Over 16 years of age.
Grade 10 English or equivalent.
Priority participants will be Indigenous peoples, immigrants, and persons with disabilities. Workers 55+ are encouraged to apply.
Program Delivery
The Hospitality Professional Program is delivered by Okanagan College in partnership with the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA).
