Permanent Wholesale Pricing for Liquor in BC
Reforms made for BC hospitality businesses to purchase liquor at wholesale prices are now permanent, British Columbia’s Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth announced on Feb. 23, 2021. This has been one of most urgent requests from thousands of small hospitality businesses struggling to recover from the devastating financial impacts of COVID-19.
With approximately 80 per cent of BC’s restaurants and pubs losing money and at risk of bankruptcy in the coming months, this news couldn’t have come at a better time. This new rule allows hospitality businesses to cut their liquor costs by as much as 20 per cent, which could translate into about 5 per cent savings that goes directly to their bottom line.
The Alliance of Beverages Licensees BC (ABLE BC) have been advocating for this change since 2015 and this announcement is a huge win for them, the BC hospitality industry and 190,000 hospitality industry workers.
