Sustainable Project of the Year
Recognizing inspiring sustainability projects within the Thompson Okanagan Region
Award Criteria
The Sustainable Project of the Year Award was created to recognize organizations that develop and implement sustainability projects that go above and beyond while inspiring others to take action. This award was established in 2020 by the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and is bestowed upon a committed Biosphere company in the Thompson Okanagan region. We honour sustainability projects that demonstrate responsibility and excellence in one or more of the following areas:
Environment and Climate Change
Emissions control of polluting substances;
Water use and wastewater sanitation;
Production and use of clean, affordable and non-polluting energies;
Responsible production and consumption;
Plastic and waste management;
Society and Culture
Health and well-being
Quality of education
Gender education
Sustainable cities and communities
Governance and Economy
Transparency in business management
Generating employment opportunities
Promote decent work and economic growth
Supporting local
Encouraging innovation and infrastructure development
Promoting social welfare inside and outside the company
Accessibility
Eligibility
The winning project must have taken place between January 1 and December 31, 2022. The project could be a new, ongoing or recurring project, and ideally, can be replicated and scaled up to other businesses to achieve a larger impact.
This award is open to Biosphere Committed Companies only.
Nominees can be repeat applicants but not the same project from previous years.
Award Schedule
Nominations may be submitted at any time throughout the year. In order to be eligible for the current calendar year, submissions must be received by December 1st. Any submissions received after December 1 shall be placed under consideration for the following year's awards.
Award Submissions review: December 1st - December 15th
Shortlisting and Final Selection - December 15th- 30th
Award Winners Announced: Following January
Entry Process
2020: The winner was selected by Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association staff that work with Biosphere Commitment Program participants across the region.
2021 onward: Nomination process (including self-nominations)
There is no entry fee for this award.
